Do you work from home? Here is my madness overloaded day

ย Tuesday Morning (10:00 a.m.)

I heard a melodious faint voice of Enrique and felt beautiful in my carefully done hair, high heels, and black satin evening gown. It felt as if Enrique was somewhere near me and singing. Though his voice started getting a little louder and louder and louder. Enrique yelled, โ€œFor the love of God! Woman pick up your phone pleaseโ€. I moved my eyelids and saw a name flashing on my phone…Damn it! I slept again while putting my baby to sleep.

I woke up, found my laptop and my fingers started working as fast as they could. My one eye was on the baby and one on the laptop, my mind running on work, and my heart was praying that my baby should sleep for a just couple of hours more.

10:30 a.m.

My babyโ€™s eyelids were moving and I knew what was next. She woke up smiled and started kicking which was a sign that she wanted to sit up and play. I picked her up and started our daily routine of massage, feeding, bath time, playtime, etc.

12:30 p.m.

She was exhausted after running (on a walker) and chewing everything she could put her hands on. I put her to sleep again and started working on my assignment. Knocking on the door pushed me to an edge that I almost cursed. Then followed a parade of people: an Electronics repair guy, a Car cleaning guy, etc.

1:30 p.m.

After the parade was over it was time to head towards the kitchen. I prepared lunch and made sure to make something different for the baby (She is a picky eater). While cooking I kept an eye on her too as she is not a sound sleeper and also because I love her smile when she opens her eyes and sees me right next to her.

2:30 p.m.

I was done with my daily lunch routine and so was my princess with her sleep. She was happily clinging to me and enjoying my conversation with Mom over the phone. I admit when she looks at me with those beautiful eyes and smiles like her dad, my whole world stops. I can never express that feeling in words.

3:30 p.m.

My little one was busy with her toys (Empty bottles, my purse, and her fingers). She loves playing with everything which can not be considered a toy. It is a red alert whenever she is quiet for more than 2 or 3 minutes. I was working on my assignment while keeping an eye on her. She recently started blabbing Papa and Baba, her dad is on cloud nine since he won a bet that she would say papa first. Sigh!!

5:00 p.m.

I put her to sleep again which took almost 45 min today. I think babies can sense the urgency in our behavior and then conspire against it. She usually sleeps in 15 minutes if she is tired, after playing for an hour or so. I had to finish my assignment by tonight and she was behaving as if she had eaten an entire pack of energy bars. Finally, I did manage to put her to sleep past a couple of scratches from her nails and biting.

7:00 p.m.

My little one was happily playing with her dad. Sometimes I feel cheated, every day when her dad comes back from the office she starts squealing and jumping by just looking at him. As if she is trying to say โ€œI am hell bored with Mom, please save me, Dadโ€. Anyway, I prepared our dinner utilizing the time as she was busy with her dad. We had dinner.

10:00 p.m.

After our dinner, I massaged her, fed her, and changed her clothing. She slept with no tantrums. Voila!!!

I Completed my assignment and clicked on sent at 1:30 a.m. Enjoyed my little “me time” by reading a book by my favorite author till 2:00 or 2:30. Looked at my peacefully sleeping little bundle of joy and kissed her on the forehead. Set my alarm for the next day which readโ€5 hours 5 minutes (Alarm set)โ€

I am a combination of โ€œWorking Momโ€ and โ€œStay at home, Momโ€. I belong to a tribe of Moms who are called โ€œFreelancersโ€.

We are quite habitual of listening to the following:

Q: โ€œHow lucky! You get to spend more time with the baby and no deadline to followโ€

A: Well I am sorry to break your bubble but we do get deadlines followed by consequences as well. Although, I agree we do get to see almost all first of our babies and thatโ€™s just too precious to be compared with anything in the world.

Q: โ€œIs it a real job, I mean you get paid right?โ€

A: No, it is a fictional job and I am a Wizard. Why would they pay me, itโ€™s not as if they HIRED me to get their work done.

Q: โ€œYou are blessed as you donโ€™t work on fixed shifts or weekdaysโ€

A: Yup for once you are almost correct we donโ€™t have fixed shifts, however, not only do we work on weekdays but weekends too.

  2. Thanks for this post. It was as if you wrote my routine out there, but the exception was my baby doesn’t sleep for more than 45 mins and I need to prioritise my to do list accordingly ๐Ÿ˜›

  3. I completely relate with your blog dear. I always say working in office is done relaxing when compared to life as a mom while at home. Loved it ?

  4. I totally relate. But my version would include 2 school visits and endless snack time munchies …games and snuggles and boo-boos !!

  5. This felt like I was reading about my life. I totally get what you are saying – People think we should have all the free time in the world since we work from home. But honestly, I was less exhausted and less busy when I went to an office everyday. I can totally resonate with this. ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Totally understand your life. I am full time working mom but some days I take work from home and then I get no time to work at home ๐Ÿ™‚ I complete my work after my son sleeps which makes me wake up till very late

  7. That is quite a lot for a day! I used to crib a lot when my daughter was an infant but now I miss those days

  8. I can totally relate to this. I have three kids, three dogs, a husband that is rarely home thanks to the Army and a blog!

  9. I loved reading this, and resonate with it so much! It is so difficult working at home and being a SAHM with a little one! Basically two full-time jobs! I am just getting into freelance, so I will be interested in reading your future posts!
