Why IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack is a must watch on Netflix #Review

Dear readers, examinations of our kids are knocking on the door and more than kids, parents need the classes to manage anxiety or stress levels. Binge-watching some good series or movies is one of my favorite stress-busters. This weekend we finished watching the new series on Netflix called IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack.

I do not know why and how it has offended some parts of the internet however, from the viewer’s perspective here are a few things that I loved :

I understand the authenticity of the facts/figures and situations would not be accurate, this could be one of the major reasons people aren’t happy about this series. My reason for watching this series was simple, I wanted to see some fabulous actors’ performances woven into one story. The lineup of actors in this series caught my attention the day it was announced.

The actors and their performances

Among the known actors who have mastered their craft over the years, for me, Manoj Pahwa takes away the cake in the series. It was a pleasure to watch this man shine through in the series. His dialogue delivery and the tone of the character were a piece of art to watch. In the later part of the series, he gets to play the negotiator and speaks to terrorists. His impeccable comic timing and the way he speaks are a treat to watch.

I was in 8th or 9th standard when this incident took place, some blurred memories of the horrific incident, the constant news updates, and people talking about the newlywed couple, political discussions, etc. and it all flooded back after watching this series. The Kandahar Hijack tells the story of the longest hijacking in Indian aviation history.

The series begins with the hijackers making their way into the flight at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Within a few minutes of take-off, the militants announced that the flight carrying 179 passengers and 111 crew members had been hijacked.

The six-episode series shows the events that transpire, from the chaos up in the air to the government officials who scramble to control the ordeal. The series is adapted from the book written by Captain Devi Sharma and Journalist Srinjoy Chowdhary named Flight into Fear: A Captain’s Story.

Name of the series: IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack

Director: Anubhav Sinha

Platform: Netflix

The Kandahar Hijack series has garnered some controversy over the portrayal of some of the character’s names. The controversy over the show, sparked by social media viewers, centered on the hijackers’ names in the film.
